The Summary of Julius Caesar Julius Caesar is one of the many famous works by William Shakespeare. Julius Caesar takes place in Ancient Rome in 44 B.C, when Rome was at the center of an empire. Some citizens favored more democratic rule than Caesar's. They feared that Caesar’s power would lead to the enslavement of Roman citizens by his authority. To solve the problem, a group of Caesar's "close" friends, came together in a conspiracy led by Cassius and assassinated Caesar. However, they failed to put an end to the power struggle, which led to a civil war shortly after. Brutus, Caesar's closest friend, lost the battle to Mark Antony, who was Caesar's most adamant follower. One of the most famous and quoted lines from the play includes: "Et tu Brute"-Spoken by Caesar. "Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more."-Spoken by Brutus. |
